We stayed here in the Duplex Suite, four of us in total.
It sits above Bang Por on the north-west coast, which is a different Samui to the one most people book. Chaweng is the strip with the bars and the crowds. This side is quiet and residential, and the trade-off is completely straightforward: you get space and calm, and you need transport for absolutely everything.
Be realistic about that hill. A 50cc scooter will not get up to the accommodation with two people on it. That is not a complaint about the property, it is just the geography, and it is the single thing we would want to know before booking again. Factor in a car, or at least something with more than 50cc, and budget for the fact that every trip to a beach, a restaurant or a shop is a drive.
The duplex layout is the reason to pick a residence over a hotel room. Two floors means four people are not living on top of each other, and the kitchen changes what a week costs once you stop eating out three times a day.
The guest scores line up with that experience almost too neatly. Staff at 9.3 and wifi at 9.8 are excellent. Location at 7.7 is the weakest number on the board, and having driven that hill, we would score it about the same.
