Chalok Baan Kao is the bay at the southern end of the island, and it is the sensible middle of the three west-coast options. It has a beach, somewhere to eat, and a handful of dive schools, without Sairee’s volume.
It is also the best-evidenced part of Koh Tao by a distance. View Point Resort carries 6,057 combined reviews across Booking.com and Agoda. That is more than any other Koh Tao property we list. When that many people agree on 9.1 and 9.2, the number is about as settled as guest data gets.
Location scores 9.3 at MAR24 in the village and 8.9 at View Point, a little over a kilometre from the village centre, against 9.6 at the best of Sairee. That gap is real and it is what you are buying: you can still walk to dinner, but there is less to walk to.
The geography needs one warning. Chalok sits around the headland from Ao Thian, and the two are close enough that a property listed as one can effectively be at the other. We place listings using the address the property gives, and fall back to coordinates only when it gives none, because the nearest-centroid distance between these two is sometimes under a hundred metres.
