Bangrak is the north-east corner, closest to Samui’s airport and to the Big Buddha the area is often named for. The practical case for staying here is simple: if you have an early flight or you land late, you are not crossing the island in the dark.

The oddity in the data is wifi, and it is stark. Erawan Villa scores 7.5. Tembo, a few hundred metres along the same stretch, scores 9.9. The other four run from 9.2 to 9.9, with Prana Resort Nandana matching Tembo. That is a spread of nearly two and a half points inside one small area, which is wider than any other area we cover. If connectivity matters to your trip, the area tells you nothing. Check the property.

Location scores run 8.3 to 9.1, comfortably mid-table for the island. Erawan Villa leads at 9.1 and The Culture Samui trails at 8.3. None of these are Chaweng, and none are as isolated as the north-west coast.

The more interesting pattern is what the star ratings do not predict. Bangrak holds two five-stars, The Culture Samui and uniQue boutiQue, and a three-star in Secret Garden Beach Resort. On value for money the full order is uniQue 9.2, Erawan 9.1, Secret Garden and Tembo both 8.8, Prana 8.7, The Culture 8.6. The three-star is rated better value than a five-star costing twice as much, though a five-star still tops the list, so this is not a simple story about stars being worthless.

Prices spread evenly rather than clustering, so Bangrak covers the practical airport stopover, a proper four-star resort in the middle, and the deliberate splurge.
